The last few years has been spent doing all sorts of exciting things. From sailing to Lahaina to relocating power outlets in Honolulu office buildings, I didn't think life could be much better. Then I got married to recently graduated Dr. Erin Fuller and we decided to honeymoon in Kauai and, somewhat randomly, the Philippines.

The first taxi ride in Manila immediately brought back memories from Bankok, Hanoi and Mexico City. It is a polluted, congested mess with jeepneys instead of tuk tuks, motorbikes, and VW bugs respectively. We were anxious to get out of that place, especially to get to a place like Boracay.

For a tourist trap, Boracay is amazing: Beers on the beach is less than a dollar a bottle, vendors are not persistent and obnoxious, and the beach is unbeatable. I even got to go sailing on an outrigger banca!

After about a week in Boracay and about five books on the kindle, we headed to the island of Palawan to see the world's largest underground river system and the Bacuit Archipelago in the north. There was some typical Southeast Asian sights like stinky jungle, limestone cliffs, and lots of chickens. In fact, I'm not sure which has a higher per-capita chicken population: Philippines or Kauai.

Maybe it's just been a long time since I have left the country, but Philippines has many of the mosts: most friendly people, most beautiful scenery, and most fatty meats.

That's about it for now, I've got to go learn how to cook so I can become a house husband.

We went to Kauai right after the wedding to do the Kalalau trail and a bit of sight-seeing. Our standard backpacking trip these days seems to include a few days sleeping in a tent and eating just-add-water food, followed by a few days in a fancy hotel to nurse bruises and blisters.

What can I say about Kauai that the photos can't? Enjoy...
